North East Institute for Research in Anthropology

The North East of India is composed of eight states known as Seven Sisters and a brother called Sikkim. The seven sisters are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. The history of these State shaving International borders shows that there gion is particularly sensitive. Anti social elements do createproblems. The complex situations of the North East calls for research in theare a of Anthropology, Sociology, Cultural Studies, History, Politics, etc. It would require more than one research jounal to bring clarity to the region. Anthropology Today: An International Peer - Reviewed NEIRA Journal will play its humble role in bringing more clarity to the overall situation. Encouragement and financial support for the first two issues came from Shri K.K. Paul, the then Governor of Meghalaya. There lease of the first issue took place in Raj BhavanbyShri. V. Shanmugana than the Governor of Meghalaya on 2nd August, 2015. The second issue was released on 10th February 2016 by the Most Rev. Dr. Dominic Jala Archbishop of Shillong on the occasion of the inauguration of Semester II of the academicyear 2015-2016 at Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong. The journal articles are appreciated both by scholars and students a like.

About NEIRA Journal

To encourage and facilitate anthropological research across the States of North East India with the aim of rendering the complexities of the region more legible, and to accumulate valuable data on the swiftly changing cultures and traditions, Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures (DBCIC) brings out a Journal – Anthropology Today: An International Peer Reviewed NEIRA Journal (ISSN 2454-2709) since August 2015. The journal will come out bi-annually in August and February each year.

Call for Papers

DBCIC welcomes the submission of papers, manuscript, book reviews, and other materials for publication in keeping with the nature of the journal which is based on “indigenous peoples, heritage domains, sustainable development and inclusive programmes.” Scholars and researchers are welcome to submit their research papers and articles on the following possible areas for the forthcoming issues:

  • Study of lesser known indigenous communities of North East India or of any other region in the world.
  • Study of the significant social organisations in the different indigenous communities and their inter-relationships in North East India or elsewhere.
  • Collection of anthropological literature among the different indigenous communities in North East India.
  • The institution of property and social change: A study of the North East.
  • Studies on materials unearthed by archaeologists in North East India.
  • Indian culture and its unity in diversity in North East India and the rest of the country.
  • Exploring the threads binding indigenous cultures in North East India or elsewhere.
  • Anthropometric data on population in North East India in a systematic and scientific manner vis-à-vis the same in the rest of the country.
  • Bio-anthropological survey of the population in North East India in the areas of health profile, demographic pattern and food habits.
  • Tribal solidarity movements in North East India or elsewhere.
  • Weaker sections of the population in North East India or elsewhere.
  • Ways to strengthen peace movements in North East India.
  • Ways to lessen and even eliminate corruption in society.
  • Border societies and territorial claims in North East India or elsewhere.
  • Impact of urbanization, industrialization and globalisation in North East India or elsewhere.
  • Management of environment and natural resources in North East India or elsewhere.
  • A critical study of Laudato Si’ and its application in your region/country.
  • Documentation of folk songs and music, arts and crafts in North East India.
  • A study of buffer and bridge communities among indigenous population in North East India.
  • Impact of information technology and digital revolution on indigenous communities in North East India or elsewhere.
  • Others.

Total Words: 3000-4000 words with footnotes and bibliography as well as a 10-line bio-data.

NEIRA Journal (Anthropology Today: An International Peer Reviewed NEIRA Journal) follows a combination of APA & MLA styles to allow authors who have heavy footnotes and which cannot be easily shortened. However, NEIRA Journal prefers the APA stylesheet.
